Living in the River

Updated: Aug 7, 2024

I remember a song when I was little, “There’s a river of life flowing out through me, it makes the lame to walk and the blind to see, it opens prison doors and sets the captives free”! Woohoo!!! I loved that song as a kid and I love it even more today at 66. God is alive and His Spirit lives in me. So when I wander around my little town, I am bringing this amazing river into every situation.

I believe this deep in my heart. My prayers, which are mostly God’s Words coming from my mouth, change things! I proclaim God’s Word about healing. He heals! And He wants to heal. He even went so far as to say, don’t forget, it’s one of My benefits. So when I meet someone on the street who is struggling with their health, I am going to offer to pray.

So many times, God has allowed me to see the fruit of my prayers. And I remember and rejoice at His amazing power. But sometimes, I don’t see the answer.

I used to struggle, in those times, and worry about praying in case I’m getting someone’s hope up, only to be disappointed. But then I remembered. My prayers are in faith in the Father who created us. I am not God. I am doing His will when I pray as He prompts. After that, I have to leave the work in His hands. And I have confidence that He is only good and will work all things for good for those who love and serve Him. So no matter what I see, trusting God is bigger.

Do you ever feel conflicted? I have learned, when I don’t understand, to take it to Abba. I don’t always get an answer but I always receive His peace. Though I may not know today, one day, face to Face, I will. This is the river of life that flows through me! No matter where I go, He refills my heart with His love and truth.
